Viewer's Firearm Question: What is the difference between an AK-47 and an AK-74?
Tom Clarke ATAC TV and Jim Fuller respond to a viewer's question. What is the difference between an AK-47 and an AK-74? The 7.62 x 39 was the standard round, which was adopted in 1947. The 5.45x39 has a little less tapered case, smaller & lighter and was brought out in 1974. The penetration is not as deep as the 7.62x39 and has a tendency to tumble after entry. The guys explain what are the benefits and history of the two rounds.
